How to request an accessible version of content from a Gale digital collection

Answer

Many Gale documents are already available in accessible formats, including:

  • HTML full text (screen‑reader friendly)
  • Text‑to‑speech (ReadSpeaker)
  • Adjustable font size, spacing, and contrast
  • OCR text for most primary source documents

To view the OCR for an image-based document, open the document in the Gale Primary Sources platform and select View options. You can then choose between Both Text and Image or Text only (OCR).

Send requests for accessible versions of documents from Gale resources to Accessibility.Gale@cengage.com

A member of Gale’s accessibility team will follow up within three business days to find out how best to meet an individual’s needs. Requests for accessible versions of historical primary source documents are treated on a case-by-case basis and assessed for feasibility and target turnaround time depending on the length and complexity of the document.
