As an alumni, how do I use the library's online resources?
Answer
Subscription Resources
Subscription library databases are only available from off-campus to current UM faculty, staff, and students with an active NetID. The library is unable to assign remote use privileges to alumni or others due to limitations imposed by the vendors we sign license agreements with; however, you are welcome to use the resources as a walk-in user of the public computers at the library if it’s practical for you.
Your local public library may have many relevant databases available for your use. And they typically can also provide you with Interlibrary Loan of books and articles.
Open Access (OA) Scholarship
OneSearch, the library's discovery system, is available for anyone to use and includes Open Access (OA) scholarship, which is online and freely accessible. To browse OA scholarship, enter your search terms and select the Open Access filter under the Refine Results options:
New to OA? Learn more about it here! Walk-in use (as described above) is an option for these online materials.
Montana Borrower Account
If you are an alum who still resides in Montana, you can set up a Montana Borrower account by bringing in an ID and proof of a Montana address. With a Montana Borrower account, you can borrow items from our physical collections.
Note that a Montana borrower username/password will not grant access to online materials or our interlibrary loan service. Contact your local public library, and they can help you get materials!
