How can I find a book?

Answer

OneSearch is the primary tool you can use to find books, media, articles, periodicals, databases, and everything else in our general collections! By default, OneSearch will include everything in our physical collections at the Mansfield Library, the Payne Family Library at Missoula College, the Jameson Law Library, and many of our partner academic libraries across Montana in the TRAILS consortium. Learn more searching strategies on our OneSearch Tips page.

If you’d like to limit your search to only include whole books, follow these steps:

  1. Enter your search terms in OneSearch on our homepage
  2. On the search results page, under “Refine Results”, select “Books” from the Resource Type list.
  3. Click “Apply Filters” to update your search results.

If there aren’t any books that meet your search terms, you won’t see the “Books” option in the filters at all.

On each search result, you should see a status and location such as “Online available” or “Available at Mansfield Library Level 2” and, in some cases, a call number. If you need help finding a book on the shelves talk to someone at the front desk or place a hold on the item.

If you don’t see the book you’re looking for in the search results, you can contact us for help. If you are a UM student, employee, or affiliate with an active NetID you can also place an Interlibrary Loan request or fill out a Purchase Request form.
